This weekend marked the launch of the ioSafe-ISPhotographic Motorsports effort! Sponsored by Abstract Technologies, Artisan Electric, Maximumedia Design, Miracles Fitness, Rubia Flower Market and Eight38 Sign Co, I made a highly successful and enjoyable trip to Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham Alabama over the weekend of November 25-27. Check back in soon for the whole story and some more announcements! -Dave

The girls of the Hairspa crafted some dramatic hair that deserved some dramatic lighting. Since the hair was big and bold I figured my images should be bold also.

I could not be happier with the results I got tonight. I am almost always a fan of negative space and nontraditional compositions, so image number one is an early favorite from the show. What is yours? Let me know in the comments!

Tippy Connect is an organization I have been a part of for nearly a year now. They focus on helping young professionals with networking, professional development and community involvement. If you would like to learn more about the organization you can talk to me, check out the web page, or facebook. The event was a blast the whole time. The overcast sky on Saturday was not only fantastic photography weather (cloud cover means nothing but soft, pleasing light), but also great running weather (warm but not hot).  As a runner myself I was pleased to see how much support the race had. Pretzels, Gatorade, Great Harvest bread, time clock, music, and of course lots and lots of water. Enjoy 32 of my favorite images, they tell the story of the day better than I ever could with words.

Working with the Dolls has been a goal of the studio for over a year now. I personally have been a fan of the Brawln’ Dolls since I saw them for the first time last October. Unfortunately, most of their bouts are on Saturdays during wedding season, so getting a project going has been difficult. This year we were finally able to meet with a few members of the team and work out an arrangement for us to work together.

Being a fan, my goal was to capture the excitement I experience while attending a bout. To accomplish this I knew I wanted to use a dramatic lighting style. I set up two gridded strobes, one on each end of opposite corners of the track. This allowed me freedom of movement while still providing the intended dramatic highlights. I don’t encounter much opportunity to shoot fast motion, yet I am happy with the results I acheived. Here are a few favorites of both the Dolls and their opponents the Vette City Vixens. GO LBD!

One of the joys of being located in downtown Lafayette is being a part of the wonderful events that happen. Gallery Walk is put on three times every summer by Tippecanoe Art Federation, and downtown businesses stay open late, serve refreshments, and most importantly display artwork. For the first Gallery Walk of the year we are proud to display works by Troy Clark.

“Troy’s process involves a wide variety of techniques. As it was Dali’s intent, Troy often tries to eliminate any evidence of the brush stroke softening the acrylic with aerosol, airbrush, rag and sponge. In his effort to tell a story his work is often compartmentalized. Xerox transfers, stencils, the juxtaposition of seemingly unrelated images all lead to a work which, when visually peeled back, exposes its many layers.”

Come down tonight from 6pm-10pm for a nice walk, free food and drink, and great art – all adding up to one of the best nights out in Greater Lafayette!
